“Vishu kani” is Vyloppilli Sreedhara Menon’s poem about his childhood memories of Vishu festival.
Kendra Sahithya Academy (1964 and 1971) award winner – Vyloppilli was born on 11th May 1911 in Ernakulam district, Kerala. His profession was teaching and he loved children.
Poet remembers that he use race for collecting the ripe mangoes when it drops in the wind. The smell of smoking straw burnt in the paddy fields. Milky white cloud that appears to be going towards the heaven! The comic smiles of cashew nuts! The dark reddish color of the seeds! The wind from the sea waves making noise while brushing the coconut palms! All of these memories are still fresh in him.
